February 1, 2019, Geneva - Between January 21st and February 1st, the Permanent Mission of the Republic of Moldova to the UN Office in Geneva actively engaged in the work of the 32nd session of the Universal Periodic Review (UPR) Working Group, during which the human rights situation in 14 states was examined.

The Moldovan delegation presented speeches for seven countries: New Zealand, Afghanistan, Chile, Cyprus, Cambodia, Macedonia and Slovakia. The presented recommendations reflect the priorities of the Republic of Moldova in promoting and protecting human rights at a national and international level, namely: the ratification of international protocols and conventions, abolition of capital punishment, promoting gender equality, the rights of young people, combating human trafficking, domestic violence and violence against women.

The Universal Periodic Review is a global mechanism for assessing and monitoring the human rights situation in all UN member states. The Republic of Moldova went through a similar exercise in November 2016, the next assessment being scheduled for 2021.
