Moldovan Mission in Geneva participates at the traditional UN Charity Bazar

According to the annual tradition, the Permanent Mission of the Republic of Moldova to the UN Office at Geneva has participated at the UN Bazar organized by the United Nations Women’s Guild, in collaboration with the diplomatic missions in Geneva, cantonal and municipal authorities and representatives of the business community. The event is organized around Christmas time and is aimed at collecting funds to support disadvantaged children from around 50 countries. Honorary guests participating at the opening ceremony of this year’s Bazar were H.E. Mr. Michael Moller, Director-General of the UN Office at Geneva and H.E. Mr. François Longchamp, President of the Council of State of the Canton of Geneva.

The Permanent Mission of the Republic of Moldova to the UN Office at Geneva has presented this year two stands. Moldovan products have been offered for sale – juices, jams, teas, walnuts and honey, as well as handicrafts produced in Moldova, while the Moldovan wines (Cricova, Purcari, Château Vartely, Mileștii Mici, EtCetera, Migdal-P) have represented a particular attraction for the visitors, who had the chance to savour their refined taste. Another stand has offered traditional dishes, where participants had the opportunity to taste and appreciate traditional “sarmale” (cabbage rolls) and “placinte” (pies).

The collected funds have been donated for the educational, social and development projects sponsored by the United Nations Women’s Guild for disadvantaged children. In 2016, 2 projects in the Republic of Moldova have benefited from the financial support of the UNWG. The funds have been used to produce 35 orthopedic chairs for children with disabilities and to provide equipment for the pediatric section of a regional hospital in Soroca region.
