The Republic of Moldova becomes Member of the Coordination Committee of the World Intellectual Property Organization

During the period 2-11 October 2017, the 57th Series of Meetings of WIPO Assemblies took place in Geneva, setting working priorities for the Secretariat and the WIPO Committees for the following year. During the meeting, the decision regarding the membership of the Coordination Committee, one of the main decision-making bodies of the organization, was adopted. According to the decision, the Republic of Moldova will be a member of the Coordination Committee during the period 2017-2019.

The Assemblies have also approved the programs and budget for the 2018-2019 biennium, which foresees a 10.9% increase in the organization’s revenues, as well as the general infrastructure improvement plan. Based on the adopted budget, expenditure growth will be limited to 2.7%, avoiding the creation of new staff positions.

Following the debates, delegations have agreed on a 2-years extension of the mandate of the Intergovernmental Committee on Intellectual Property and Genetic Resources, Traditional Knowledge and Folklore (IGC) and have adopted its work programme.

During the series of meetings, Members have also adopted the Common Regulations under the Lisbon Agreement for the Protection of Appellations of Origin and the Geneva Act of the Lisbon Agreement, extending the mandate of the Working Group for the examination of possibilities of developing the Lisbon system and identifying solutions for ensuring its financial sustainability.
