Ambassador Tudor Ulianovschi has presented the report of his activity as President of the UNCTAD Trade and Development Board at the Economic and Financial Committee of the UN General Assembly in New York

In the period 5-6 October 2017, Ambassador Tudor Ulianovschi has presented the report of his activity as President of the UNCTAD Trade and Development Board at the Economic and Financial Committee (Second Committee) of the UN General Assembly in New York.

In his statement in front of the Members of the Committee, Ambassador Ulianovschi highlighted that sustainable development, particularly UN Sustainable Development Goals should be the final focus of any trade strategy, which should be coordinated more closely with international policies and initiatives of the UN Agencies. In this sense, during the UNCTAD annual session presided by Ambassador Ulianovschi in Geneva in the period 11-22 September 2017, Member States had discussions on the topics of inclusive economic growth, development strategies in the era of digitalization, investments in digital economies, the role of tourism for the economic development in Africa, as well as the activity of the Intergovernmental Group of Experts on Finance for Development and the Intergovernmental Group of Experts on E-Commerce.

During his visit to the UN Headquarters in New York, Ambassador Ulianovschi has also had a series of bilateral meetings with high-level officials and delegates: Ms. Amina Mohammed, Deputy Secretary-General of the UN, Mr. Zhenmin Liu, Under-Secretary-General for Economic and Social Affairs, Ms. Inga Rhonda King, Vice-President of ECOSOC, the Office for Finance for Development, Office of the President of the General Assembly. The meetings were an occasion to discuss the modalities to reinvigorate the intergovernmental mechanism of the UN in order to maximize the role and impact of the United Nations Conference for Trade and Development in the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals.
